A Japandi Bedroom with a Wood Slat Accent Wall

One wall of vertical timber slats does almost everything here: it adds texture, frames the bed and catches the up-light beautifully. The rest of the room stays restrained — soft greys, taupe and a single armchair by the window.

The idea behind it

Japandi is about warmth without clutter. The slat wall brings the wood tones; the low bed, bench and floating nightstands keep sight-lines clean.

Twin glass pendants replace table lamps, freeing the nightstands and adding a soft point of light either side of the bed.

What you will need

  • Vertical wood slat panels, floor-to-ceiling slats behind the bed, up-lit from below

  • Low upholstered bed with bench, a padded bench at the foot keeps the composition grounded

  • Hanging glass pendants, one each side, hung low to nightstand height

  • Layered grey and taupe bedding, linen tones that echo the wall

Steal the look

  1. Step 1

Panel the bed wall with vertical slats in a mid-tone oak or walnut

  2. Step 2

Add LED up-lighting at the base or top of the slats

  3. Step 3

Hang pendants either side of the bed instead of lamps

  4. Step 4

Choose a low bed and a matching foot-of-bed bench

  5. Step 5

Keep bedding in three quiet tones, no patterns

Perfect for

  • Lovers of calm, clutter-free rooms
  • Mixing Scandinavian and Japanese warmth
  • Rooms that need texture without colour
  • Renovators happy to panel one wall

Avoid if

  • You like maximalist colour and pattern
  • The room is too small for a bench and armchair
  • Panelling a wall is beyond the budget

Let one textured wall speak and keep every other surface silent — that tension is the whole style.
