A Grand Navy Foyer with Brass Arches and an Oak Bench

July 21, 2026

A two-storey navy wall laced with brass arches, floating oak landing pieces and one great ring of candlelight: the entry as overture for the whole house.

The idea behind it

The wall solves the double-height problem — how to decorate air — by giving the void a graphic to climb. Arches at that scale read from the driveway through the glass door, so the design starts working before arrival.

Every functional object floats: shelf, bench, even the rug's pale field. Clear floor is the luxury an entry can actually offer, and this design spends it deliberately.

What you will need

  • Navy feature wall, Two-storey painted panel with slim brass arch trim

  • Floating oak console shelf, A cantilevered landing surface for lamp and bowl

  • Matching oak bench, Backless seat below the shelf for shoe changes

  • Brass candle-ring chandelier, A generous crown fixture at human height

  • Brass umbrella stand, The wet-day detail that keeps floors clear

  • Faded blue rug, A washed echo of the wall over pale oak boards

  • Black-framed glass doors, The garden view as the foyer's second artwork

Steal the look

  1. Step 1

Panel or paint the stair wall in deep navy, running the colour the full two storeys.

  2. Step 2

Lay out tall arches in slim brass bead, aligned to the balcony rail above.

  3. Step 3

Mount the floating oak shelf at 85cm with concealed brackets, bench slightly forward below.

  4. Step 4

Hang the brass ring chandelier with its base near 210cm at the entry line.

  5. Step 5

Style the shelf with one lamp, one bowl and one dark vase of greenery.

  6. Step 6

Place the umbrella stand at the wall's end and the faded rug centred to the doors.

  7. Step 7

Keep every other wall off-white and bare — the navy wall needs its silence.

Perfect for

  • Double-height foyers and open stair halls
  • New builds needing instant architecture
  • Fans of the navy-brass-oak classic trio
  • Households that greet guests properly

Avoid if

  • The hall is narrow — tall arches need width to breathe
  • You want soft, casual, collected entries
  • A statement chandelier exceeds the electrical budget

Frequently AskedQuestions

Deep saturated tones — navy, ink, forest — on one architectural wall, balanced by pale floors and warm metal accents. Depth reads as confidence, and confidence reads as expense.

In double-height foyers, add the room's dimensions in feet and read the sum in inches for diameter — a 12x14ft foyer suits a 26in fixture. Hang it so its base sits about 7ft above the floor at the entry line.

A landing surface (console or shelf), seating for shoes (bench or stool), and covered storage or hooks. Everything else is styling — and the styling should never crowd the function.
