A Cream Chevron TV Wall with a Fluted Oak Console

A cream chevron wall lit by raking sconces, a three-metre fluted oak console under travertine, and farmhouse ease all around: the quietly confident TV wall.

The idea behind it

Everything here is monochrome-plus-wood: cream pattern, cream walls, oak warmth. With colour removed, the eye reads shadows — chevron grooves, fluting ribs, the console's float line — and the room feels layered while staying serene.

The wall balances one long horizontal (console and its glow) against a full-height field of diagonals. That opposition — calm base, lively field — is why the composition holds even with a big black screen at its centre.

What you will need

  • Oversized chevron panelling, Wide MDF strips in a full-wall herringbone, painted wall-colour cream

  • Fluted oak media console, Long floating unit with ribbed doors and lit shadow gap

  • Travertine console top, A thick stone slab crowning the oak

  • Black-and-brass sconces, Twin column lights raking the panels beside the screen

  • Lit shelf alcove, A side niche of oak shelves for ceramics and baskets

  • Linen sectional, Deep cream seating wrapping a stone coffee table

  • Black candle chandelier, A farmhouse ring fixture grounding the ceiling

Steal the look

  1. Step 1

Lay out the chevron full-scale on the wall, fix wide MDF strips, and paint everything one warm cream.

  2. Step 2

Hang the fluted console at 45cm height with an LED strip in the gap beneath.

  3. Step 3

Top it with a travertine or stone-look slab and mount the TV 20cm above.

  4. Step 4

Fit twin sconces just outside the screen's width at two-thirds wall height.

  5. Step 5

Build or dress a side alcove with lit oak shelves for texture storage.

  6. Step 6

Anchor seating on a pale rug: linen sectional, stone table, olive and brown cushions.

  7. Step 7

Hang the black candle chandelier centrally and dim everything warm for evenings.

Perfect for

  • Family rooms that need polish without preciousness
  • Modern-farmhouse and transitional homes
  • Anyone nervous about dark feature walls
  • DIYers ready for one ambitious weekend of panelling

Avoid if

  • You want the TV visually hidden — cream backgrounds outline screens
  • High-gloss modern minimalism is the goal
  • The wall is broken by doors or windows that would chop the chevron field

Frequently AskedQuestions

Yes — dimensional panelling gives the wall its own identity so the screen stops being the only feature. Tone-on-tone patterns like chevron add craft without visual noise, ideal behind a large TV.

A media cabinet whose doors and sides are faced in vertical half-round ribs. The texture catches light beautifully, hides fingerprints and turns a storage box into a furniture statement.

Leave 15-25cm between console top and screen bottom, with the screen's centre roughly at seated eye level — usually 105-115cm from the floor in a lounge with deep seating.
