One calacatta slab in a halo of light, one grain-matched walnut float, and three dimmer circuits: the media wall as resort architecture.
The idea behind it
This is subtraction design: no shelving, no ornament, no second material on the wall itself. With everything removed, the two remaining gestures — veined stone and glowing timber — read at full volume.
Light is layered in three heights: cove above, halo at eye level, under-glow low. The gradient pulls the room toward the wall the way a fireplace does, which is exactly the job a media wall inherits after dark.
What you will need
Calacatta slab panel, Stone or large-format porcelain with fanned gold veining
Recessed halo channel, Warm LED strip framing the entire slab
Floating walnut console, Grain-matched drawers, handle-free, under-lit
Ceiling cove tray, Perimeter LED washing the ceiling above
Pale terrazzo flooring, Fine speckle to counter the bold veining
Deep linen sofas, Neutral seating over a bordered rug
Dark coffee table, A near-black slab grounding the centre
Steal the look
Step 1
Frame the media wall build-up with cable routes and a perimeter recess sized for LED channel.
Step 2
Fix the calacatta slab centrally, keeping the reveal even on all four sides, and fit warm strip in the channel.
Step 3
Mount the TV flush on the slab with in-wall power and data.
Step 4
Hang the walnut console at 45cm with continuous LED in its underside shadow gap.
Step 5
Wire cove, halo and under-glow to three separate dimmers.
Step 6
Floor in pale terrazzo porcelain and centre a bordered rug with linen sofas facing the wall.
Step 7
Style the console with exactly three objects and let the stone do the rest.

Frequently AskedQuestions
The stone or porcelain panel sits proud of the structural wall on a frame, leaving a recessed perimeter channel fitted with warm LED strip. The light washes outward, floating the slab visually and reducing screen-glare contrast at night.
No — bold veining actually helps. The eye reads the slab as one artwork and the dark screen as its calm centre, whereas plain pale walls outline a TV harshly.
40-50cm from floor to top surface suits deep lounge seating, leaving room for the under-glow and keeping drawers reachable from a seated position.
