A Terracotta TV Wall with a Cane Console and Lit Alcoves

Clay walls, a cane-front console, espresso alcove shelves and globe-lamp glow: the TV wall as a well-travelled corner rather than an installation.

The idea behind it

The wall works because texture replaces symmetry as the organising idea: cane webbing, stone jars, timber grain and woven pendant all repeat 'handmade' until the TV reads as the only machine in a human room — and forgivable for it.

Terracotta is treated as a neutral: cushions, rug tones and pot clays all sample the wall colour at different depths, so the scheme layers like one pigment explored rather than colours combined.

What you will need

  • Terracotta wall paint, Clay-pink across the chimney wall and alcoves

  • Cane-front media console, Rattan-webbed doors in a dark timber frame

  • Espresso floating shelves, Dark-stained planks fitted within each alcove

  • Recessed alcove spots, Warm downlights washing the shelf displays

  • Amber globe lamps, Small glowing spheres dotted among the styling

  • Woven dome pendant, A lantern centrepiece over the seating

  • Vintage-tone rug and rust cushions, Soot-and-brick pattern with ikat and linen layers

Steal the look

  1. Step 1

Paint the media wall and alcoves clay terracotta, keeping cornice and ceiling white.

  2. Step 2

Centre the cane console under the wall-mounted TV, cables dropped inside a painted channel.

  3. Step 3

Fit three espresso shelves per alcove and wire warm spots above each recess.

  4. Step 4

Style the shelves in balanced asymmetry: jars, brass, leaning art, one fern per side.

  5. Step 5

Add two amber globe lamps per alcove on smart plugs for one-tap evening glow.

  6. Step 6

Hang the woven pendant centrally and layer the seating with rust, ikat and oatmeal.

  7. Step 7

Finish with a monstera by the window and a reclaimed-wood coffee table stacked with books.

Perfect for

  • Boho, eclectic and global-collected homes
  • Renters allowed paint but not joinery — the console is freestanding
  • Plant people whose greenery needs a warm backdrop
  • Anyone bored of grey media walls

Avoid if

  • You want crisp minimalism or hidden-everything storage
  • The room already runs hot with south light all day
  • Open shelf styling feels like maintenance rather than joy

Frequently AskedQuestions

Excellent — warm mid-depth tones soften the screen's contrast and glow under evening light. Terracotta especially flatters rattan, dark wood and brass, the boho media wall's core materials.

No — cane webbing passes infrared signals and audio easily, which is why it is the favourite front for soundbar and speaker storage. Dust with a soft brush occasionally.

Forget matching: balance visual weight instead. A tall vase left equals a stack-plus-lamp right; a trailing plant answers a leaning frame. Step back after each move — the scales, not the mirror, are the test.
